UK and Italy Benefit Most from Easter Holidays

We track scheduled flights (what’s planned) and tracked flights (what took off) from a sample of the largest airports across the world.
Looking at data up to 10 April 2023:
- Average global departures sit close to 114,000 per day, up 1,000 per day from the last report. They remain the highest since January 2020 and sit above 2019 levels (Chart 1).

Looking at data up to 10 April 2023:
- Average global departures sit close to 114,000 per day, up 1,000 per day from the last report. They remain the highest since January 2020 and sit above 2019 levels (Chart 1).
- European departures continued their dominant resurgence as holidayers departed for Easter half-term vacation. London Gatwick (+6.0% WoW) saw flights increase the most, with Italian airports following closely behind (Rome: +5.2%, Milan: +3.3%).
- Asia lagged as the China re-opening slowed. There was only a small growth in passengers leaving Shanghai (+0.9%) and Beijing (+0.5%).
- Elsewhere, departures regained some lost ground in the US (+0.9%).
